The Gemini Station
The Gemini Station, built by the Precursor-N68 species, was discovered by Dyson Dynamics during their buyout of several territory contracts. It consists of two interlocking rings with a sphere in the center, its hull made from a black material that blends seamlessly into the background of space. The two rings are synchronized to maintain orbit around the central sphere, without ever colliding with it or each other.
Named after these 'twin' rings, the station is where the bulk of the story and setting of System Failure takes place. Dyson Dynamics assigns the crew of the Watcher to the station, believing it to be unimportant beyond offering new energy cores they could sell like the many other stations before it. Unlike the stations before it however, the Gemini Station served as a research and residential station.
Within the station's hull, the rings rotate at extreme speeds to simulate gravity using centripetal force, with gravity just slightly lower than Earth's. Teleporters, a technology not seen on other P-N68 stations, link the two rings, allowing transportation to different sections or rings as needed. Accessing the research ring through teleporters requires identification or permission from the station AI.
The two rings were divided into a 'living' ring and a 'research' ring, with each having two separate floors. Each ring was further divided into four sections, for a total of eight sections between the two rings, separated by airlocks in case of a hull breach. By the time Dyson Dynamics found the station, all airlocks had been sealed, and each section was quarantined.
The central sphere has a single entrance, an room with only a teleporter and a sealed door locked with what appears to be a circular passcode lock. Any mention of this section within system files or translated texts refers to it as containing items of great importance, with terms vaguely translating it as a 'vault' or 'proving grounds'. This has made 'the Vault' within the Gemini Station one of Dyson Dynamics' highest priorities, the promise of valuables inside spurring them on.
Naturally, having hastily assigned the 'expendable criminals' of the Watcher to the station without any way to recall them has provided the greedy company with endless amounts of frustration and anger.
